USA Stars & Lights: Portraits from the Dark is a coffee table book by photographer David Zapatka, and is a wonderful sequel to his 2017 book Stars & Lights: Darkest of Dark Nights. Readers can follow David's adventures as he visits our historic beacons deep into the night. The book features a thoughtful Foreword by USLHS President Mike Vogel, and was designed by USLHS graphic designer Rich Gales. This is an important and historically significant photographic collection with many previously unpublished night lighthouse images from seventeen states. Utilizing high-end cameras, often times arriving in darkness by boat, and occasionally using a special 20-foot tripod, David's trained eye and specialized lighting bring to life more than 160 lighthouses like never before. In Portraits from the Dark, lighthouses from 17 states are included: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Mississippi, Louisiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. The books are American-made, printed on four-color press and bound at a factory in Peoria, Illinois.
